Pre-Production Planning:Location Ideas
06:24Here are a few of my location ideas:
Train:
The first main location I have chosen to use is the inside of a train. Being inside of the train will highlight their journey and set the music video as being an account of their day out. I have chosen to use a train and not any other method of transport such as cars etc is because trains are the most popular method of travel and my audience will be familiar with it, creating a social pragmatic that the audience can relate to. It also highlights the fact that they are going out somewhere far and unfamiliar which can emphasize the spontaneous nature of the music video. I also decided to use a train as they are the most popular method of transport among teenagers and young adults which can emphasize their naivety and youth. It also familiarizes the audience with the context of the characters' because they are not as independent and able to drive.
Streets in Oxford:
This is the main location of my music video, below is an overview of the main filming location which are two roads in this intersection.
St.Aldates Street
High Street
This is the main location of my music video, below is an overview of the main filming location which are two roads in this intersection.
Below are overviews of the two streets.
St.Aldates Street
High Street
(Here is the entrance to the indoor market that I want to film at which is also on High Street)
I wanted to film somewhere out in the streets as I wanted to create the idea of a quest narrative and foreground the idea of a casual day out. I also want to film them outside as it again highlights how they are exploring the streets and show just how overwhelming and busy the atmosphere is. By filming out in busy streets with lots of people and many things taking place at the same time can portray them as bold and reckless with no fear which characteristics them as young teenagers. It also emphases the idea of age and the demand for individuality. I chose these streets as they mimic streets of London which is something I want to try and highlight in my music video as London is seen as a very overwhelming city that is full of discovery. I however chose not to use the actual streets of London as they are very busy and it is difficult to avoid rush hour.. There are also many red buses and telephone boxes which then places the audience in the geographical context of the music video.
The Covered Market Oxford (market/ inside of shops)
I will also need to film here as I want to include variety in my music video and also have them in some of these shops trying things on and exploring the indoor market to accentuate their relationship as a couple and keep the narrative flowing. Filming inside well as outside can help shape my narrative as we see almost every key element of their journey. I also want the journey to seem as if it has a purpose so ideally shopping seems like something that is genuine and legitimate. This specific indoor market is very niche with many independent shops and stalls so it would be ideal in helping portray my genre in the video. This also does have some similarities to Camden Market in London except it is indoor which can help portray my indie genre further.
Moo-Moos Milkshake Place Oxford
This is for when they are inside the indoor market and are getting a smoothie. I wanted to include some variety in the types of things they do so naturally I included them getting drinks, as smoothies are something that are quite popular among teenagers. I also want to include this as I want the trip to seem authentic and not repetitive with the same clips of them walking. I am hoping for this to appeal to the audience as it will hopefully be something they can identify with.
House of a friends (Middleton Cheney)
The last scene will hopefully be a party as the last part of the song is more upbeat and lively than the rest. I chose to use the location of a party as it is common among teenagers and young adults and highlights the teenage mindset of being reckless and free. It will also play as a social pragmatic to the audience as well as being something they can personally identify themselves and their own experiences with. I will really try here and emphasize the teenage nature and preconceptions of teenagers such as excessive drinking and partying which will hopefully emphasize the actor's desire for their own identity and sense of self. This also relates well to my genre as indie music videos tend to include partying. This also relates well to my media form as music videos also tend to be based around the idea of letting go and having fun. I chose this location as from experience as there have been many successful parties hosted here. I have seen the location in full myself so I know this will work really well as the atmosphere will be a more realistic party atmosphere as it is actual party of real people anyway and therefore will make the party scene seem more genuine.
