Ancillary 1: Creating The Digipak
11:38
The first thing I needed was a template for a Digipak so I downloaded one from Discmaker.com and opened it up on Photoshop.
After opening up the template into Photoshop I unlocked the layer and began by creating 3 squares that fit the front cover, the inside cover and back cover.
Then I opened up the digital drawing into Photoshop and unlocked the layer so I could drag it onto the template.
After dragging it onto the template I positioned it onto the front cover and duplicated the layer so I now had two hands for my album cover. I then flipped the drawing horizontally and placed the hands one on top of the other, as if they were reaching for each other.
After creating the main art for my album, I needed to create a band name. For this I used a random band name generator online and it came up with 'Tree Whistle' which I then used for the name of my band. I then added this as text to the front of my album using a simple font and creating the title using various sizes, spacing and stroke.
After completing my main design for my front cover, I began working on the back cover and track list. Here I also used a random song name generator to make up names of songs and used a text tool to position the names in the center using a simple and small font. I made sure the font was small as I wanted a bigger ratio of background to font as many indie album covers do.
After adding a track list I also needed a bar code which I found online and downloaded in a PNG format. After this I positioned it in the bottom right corner where a conventional bar code tends to go.
After this I also added the hand drawing onto the CD and duplicated the layer of text on the front to add to the CD.
This was the main body of my design and I then went on to make further variations in colors and design which I will show in my next blog post.
