Ancillary 1: Creating The Main Design
11:22
I looked at all of the images I selected from my contact sheet in great detail and selected the best one in terms of composition and posture. The image I chose showed one relaxed hand that looked very natural and candid. It also looked like a genuine hand reaching out which is why I chose it as I wanted my album art to symbolize two hands having a need for each other.
The first thing I did was open up the image in Illustrator, the other hand in this image was not in the right position so I decided to just draw the one I had chosen and duplicate it to create two hands.
I created the design in Illustrater by creating different anchor points where lines change direction or angle. I chose to draw in black and have a less weighty line so I could adjust the stroke after. Then I used to drawing tool in the and traced over the outside of the hand first, using the curvature line tool so I could follow the curves of the hands and fingers. After tracing the outside of the hand I change the drawing line to one that tapered off at the ends to draw the lines on the inside palm of the hand, so the drawing was as realistic as possible.
After doing this I removed the image behind that I used to trace and adjusted the stroke of my lines to 2px.
And finally I saved my design in a PNG format so I was able to keep a translucent background when I use my design for my Digipak.
