Ancillary Research 1: Final Digipak Design
23:30My my Digipak I will be using a 4 panel layout with a front cover, back cover and inside cover with a panel to hold a CD.
Here is the layout:
Here it is folded:
And this is the template I will be using from dicmakers.com
For the design of my Digipak I want something inspired by one of Digipaks I had analysed which was this one from Catfish And The Bottlemen. I really liked the look of using outlines and I overall liked the simplicity of the design. I thought it fits the genre of indie really well as the band that this Digipak belongs to is also an indie band. I want to keep a simple colour scheme too perhaps only consisting of two or three main colours. After doing research into the type of outlines, I decided on the imagery of hands.
I will create the outlines by taking pictures of hands in different positions and gestures and use the image to digitally illustrate the outlines.
In terms of the title for my Digipak, again I really liked this one from Catfish And The Bottlemen. I like it because each line of the title varies in size, font, stroke and spacing. This really draws attention to the title of the band and album, and this adds to the image of the band as the title has become a recognizable motif. Here we have a design where we can see the recognizable band name and the name of the album underneath so attention is drawn as you immediately know who the album is by.
Another feature I noticed on Digipaks that I will include in mine is a barcode and label information.
These are typical conventions of any Digipaks that I am going to include to make my Digipak look authentic.
For the record label information I will include a disclaimer saying how the band is independent and has no ties to any label to emphasise the Indie genre of being 'Independent' and free. I will also include a website link as the one below does.
